What is the best wall mount for a TV?
There are 3 basic types of brackets you can choose from: fixed, tilt and full motion.
One type is not considered to be better than another and which one you want to choose manly depends on where you plan to fix your TV and how much you think you will need to adjust it.
• Fixed
The most basic mounts fix your TV flush to the wall. Once it is mounted you will not be able to move your TV at all.
• Tilt
These mounts allow you to angle the screen a few degrees up or down. This is very useful if the TV is going to be high on the wall and you want to angle the screen down towards the viewing place.
• Full motion
These mounts generally have a moveable arm that allows your TV to extend out from the wall and be angled towards the viewer. It is handy if you need to put the mount in the corner where the TV would not be able to sit flush.
What to check when buying a TV Mount?
When you are shopping for a TV mount, you need to make sure it supports the size and weight of your TV. You need to be aware of this as just because the VESA measurements line up it does not necessarily mean that the mount can support your size of TV, so this is why it is imperative to check this first.
You should also make sure that the mount is sturdy enough to support your TV’s weight. Newer TVs are thin and light, but if yours is a little bit older then it is probably heavier, too.
How much should you spend on a wall mount?
The cost of wall mounts can vary a lot. The prices can be up to £160. But if all are VESA-compliant and fit your TV’s size and weight we don’t recommend you to pay extra.
The full motion mounts can cost more than fixed ones and some pricier ones will mean there’s less of a gap between your TV and the wall. Some more expensive brackets have more points of articulation, and this is giving you better control over exactly how your TV is positioned.
How do I know if my wall can support a TV?
Unless you are mounting your TV onto a brick wall you will need to find the studs. The vertical wooden studs that support beams run along your walls and the gaps between them will either be hollow or packed with insulation. Unfortunately, neither of these will be strong enough to hold up your TV. A stud finder will tell you exactly where they are, so you can be sure you’re drilling into something solid rather than an empty space.
How to hide TV cables and wires
There are a few options to hide TV Cables and which you choose depends on your personal preference, how many cables you have to hide and what wall you’re mounting your TV onto.
Below you will see a few options:
Trunking
If you only have a few cables, you can use trunking rather than threading them through your wall. Trunking may also be your only option if you are mounting your TV straight onto masonry or a brickwork.
Thread them through your wall
The other option requires a bit more DIY, but it is very useful if you have a lot of cables or you do not like the look of trunking. Make a hole behind where the TV will be mounted and thread all cables through it.
